Sassuolo v Roma was the opening game of Serie A matchday 23.

Luciano Spalletti managed his second successive win in charge of the Giallorossi thanks to goals came courtesy of Mohammed Salah (3rd goal in three games against the Neroverdi) and Stephan El Shaarawy (second successive goal, fourth in the last four Serie A games).

Domenico Berardi fluffed a penalty with 5 minutes still to be played, when Roma were up 1-0. Today's defeat leave Sassuolo are without a win against Roma in six Serie A meetings.
