The players of Lazio will begin their pre season training camp on Sunday, but the biancocelesti have yet to appoint their boss for next season.

Lotito sacked Stefano Pioli last April to appoint Simone Inzaghi as interim boss. Lotito and Tare started negotiations with other managers after the end of the 2015-16 campaign and less than one month ago the appointment of former Italy coach Cesare Prandelli seemed to be just a matter of time.

Trouble is, Lazio failed to announce the appointment of Prandelli entering transfer talks with Marcelo Bielsa, the man who has always topped Lotito’s wish-list. A representative of the Serie A club flied to Argentina in mid June to persuade El Loco to sign with Lazio.

The Argentinean boss had reportedly agreed personal terms with Lazio but failed to show up at Lazio training ground Formello for the first day of the season, when all the team members underwent medical ahead of the beginning of the summer training camp.

Despite the manager’s ‘crazy’ behaviour, Lazio announced Bielsa’s appointment yesterday evening, but just a few hours later Bielsa informed the club that he had changed his mind and that he would not have joined the biancocelesti.

In the meantime Simone Inzaghi had reached agreement to become the new boss of Salernitana (Serie B club also owned by Claudio Lotito), but he has been asked to return to Rome to discuss personal terms with Lazio again.

“I am going to meet Lotito for the details, but I am very happy for that”, Inzaghi told Sky Sport Italia earlier today.

The end of this embarrassing situation might be close to an end even if Simone Inzaghi could still decide to reject the job offer of Lazio if he won’t be given the guarantee that the club trust him and believe that he can be the right man to coach Lazio next season.
