Squinzi: "Berlusconi has invested but he hasn't had a strategy. Saturday I will support Juve. On Berardi..."

Sassuolo President Giorgio Squinzi has been speaking Il Giornale about his club’s fantastic season. If things go to plan in Saturday’s Coppa Italia Final, they may even make their debut in European competition next season and the patron was in no doubt who he would be supporting, declaring that; “Now I’m cheering for Juve to beat Milan not only because that means we go into the Europa League, but because Allegri is one of us. He took this club from C1 to B”.

He was asked if entering European competition would be a dream or a fear for the club to which he replied; “If Juventus wins the Coppa Italia I would be delighted to bring European football to a town of 40,000 people. We will need to spend money to improve the team and get used to playing on Thursday evenings. This will be a first for everyone, including Di Francesco”.

    BERLUSCONI WITHOUT A STRATEGY
Asked to give his opinions on the Milan situation he explained that; “What’s happened there is the saturation of two large families. Berlusconi continues to invest and has the passion but he has no strategy. Morratti had no more desire to invest at Inter so maybe he should take note”. So what about the reported Chinese partnership? “There must remain just one person in control, partnerships do not work in my opnion”.

    LEICESTER ARE DIFFERENT
It was then suggested to him that his club were similar to Leicester City in England to which he replied; “Leicester can count on the support of 40,000 people and were boosted by a budget of almost €140 million a year ago. Now they have another financial injection of €230 million, we get about €60 million and we can maybe count on another €10-15 million. We are aware of what we can achieve”.

    BERARDI TO JUVE
Finally, the subject of striker Domenico Berardi came up for discussion. Asked to give an update on the situation he declared that; “Juventus has a right of option for €25 million. This season Berardi has not played to the best of his ability but he is a quality player if a little introverted”.
