Thohir: 'Inter's main objective is the Champions League, not the Scudetto'

This morning’s Corriere dello Sport interview with Inter president Erick Thohir contains many fascinating quotes, which should give Nerazzurri fans quite the insight into what their club is hoping to gain this season.

“We won’t buy lots of players as we did in years past, but we’ll definitely reinforce the team with one or two more men. We got Candreva with Suning: the objective is to make Inter better.”

The Indonesian president, set to step down in October, made some very interesting points about what Inter wanted to do.

“What matters isn’t making a dream team: solid teams win games, not dream teams”.

Asked about Roberto Mancini, the Indonesian magnate responded that he’d “done a great job last season. Now, with De Boer, we have the same objective: to reach the Champions League. Of course’ it’s premature to say whether we’ll make it, because De Boer has never Coached in Italy.”

“Then again, Antonio Conte has never managed in England before, same as Klopp. Let’s hope we can score points in this first game”.

“Obviously Juventus are strong, but this doesn’t mean that we’re giving up on the biggest prize. Roma and Napoli could potentially threaten too. But I repeat: for Inter, at the moment, the most important thing is earning Champions League qualification”.
