Torino look to Barca and Napoli to build squad

Torino, according to Tuttosport, placed Napoli’s Duvan Zapata's on their list, estimated at around 25 million EUR, and now look to Vermaelen, Barcelona's defender who played last season on loan to Roma. These bold moves look to be serious attempts by Torino president Urban Cairo to keep the club within striking range of European competition. As Milan and Inter improve around them, and Juventus, Roma, and Napoli continue their dominance, clubs like Torino will need an intelligent business and sporting strategy.

By focusing on key fringe players on top class squads like Barca and Napoli, Torino’s objectives to aim higher are apparent. Sinisa Mihajlovic is nearly already a fan favorite, one of the management’s top choices to keep the club’s history and attitude at heart. With top quality players at his disposal, the Serbian coach can hopefully make a push similar to that which happened at Atalanta this season with Gasperini. Unfortunately players like Duvan Zapata and Vermaelen are not easy targets, and Cairo will want to avoid bidding wars with big spending clubs.
