Wenger says 'Arsenal need' Giroud amid transfer speculation

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has attempted to drown out any Olivier Giroud transfer speculation by stating the ‘Arsenal need him’, reports the Independent.

The Frenchman took a backseat in the Gunner’s campaign last season, with Alexis Sanchex preferred up-front to the 30-year-old.

Because of this, reports were suggesting that the French international has grown restless and is looking for a way out of the north-London side, with West Ham reportedly leading the chase.

But recently, Wenger has come out to say he feels Giroud is a fundamental cog in Arsenal’s wheel.

“It has been a frustrating season for him because he has not played a lot,” Wenger stated.

“And when he has played well, he has not always played the next match.

“He has won us a lot of points when he has come on because he has scored lots of times. He has qualities that our team need.”

Giroud joined up with joined Arsenal in 2012, making 164 domestic appearances for the club and scoring 69 league goals in his five years at the Emirates.
