West Ham fans hurt in brawl with AS Roma fans after derby clash

Two West Ham fans were hurt during a brawl with some supporters of AS Roma in Rome yesterday after the final whistle of the derby clash, Italian press agency Ansa reports.

The fight happened in front of a restaurant close to Ponte Milvio, in the area of the Stadio Olimpico in late night and two AS Roma fans are said to be responsible for the aggression at the English fans. Residents that witnessed the fight have told police that two AS Roma fans were involved in the brawl as one of them has a tattoo of the Serie A side that won the ‘derby della capitale’ yesterday.

Italian police have opened investigation over the brawl.

As one ambulance reached the spot of the fight, one of the two English fans was medicated shortly after the brawl and was not taken to the hospital as his conditions were not worrying.

His compatriot, on the other hand, was hit in the head and was taken to the hospital where he was found him in possession of cocaine and charged by police.
The twinning between Lazio and West Ham fans could be the reason behind yesterday night’s fight though police are still investigating.
