Official: West Ham finalize deal for Leverkusen's Mexican forward

According to reports from ESPN.com, it is official. West Ham and Bayer Leverkusen have agreed to terms for Mexican international Chicharito Hernandez.

The former Manchester United star has been a prolific scorer for the Bundesliga club, where he has played for two seasons and scored 59 goals in 157 games.

Initial reports of a £13 million (€15m) release clause have turned out to be unfounded, but West Ham still aren’t paying an excessive amount for a player who has rebooted his career in Germany.

Bereft of strikers despite signing Simone Zaza and Jonathan Calleri last season, the Hammers consider forwards to be a priority, with Coach Slaven Bilic particularly interested.

The 29-year-old scored 13 Premier League goals over his first season with the Red Devils in 2010.

This looks like the Mexican striker’s salary demands (£140,000 a week) have been met. They were considered to be a major obstacle only a few days ago.
