Why Antonio Conte was angry after Chelsea’s Champions League win

Antonio Conte had a lot to celebrate last night. His Chelsea side made it two out of two in the Champions League, and did so on the road against Atletico Madrid.

With the Colchoneros scoring first, things didn’t look good for the Blues, despite their strong start. After equalising through Alvaro Morata, it was substitute Michy Batshuayi who helped them earn a key win by scoring at the last minute.

Things should have been even sweeter considering that Diego Costa was in the stands, the Atletico man having angered Conte and eventually opted for a switch to the Colchoneros.

Yet Conte - who hasn’t generally done very well in the Champions League as a Coach - had something to gripe about at the end of the game, according to the Times.

He is peeved that Chelsea have to play Manchester City on Saturday evening. A key clash - Pep Guardiola’s side looks ready to challenge for good this time - it will allow the Mancunian side an extra day to rest and train, seeing as they played Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday.

Conte is known to be angry because there is no reason, in his mind, not to play the game on a Sunday.
