Why Mourinho isn't confident in Man Utd's hot start

After seven matches, Manchester United sit tied atop of the Premier League table with their bitter rivals, Manchester City. With 19 of a possible 21 points, and five points clear of third place Tottenham, it will come as a shock to learn that manager Jose Mourinho isn’t completely confident in his club’s ability to earn a Champions League spot next season.

Speaking to Portuguese outlet Record, the famed tactician was measured about his team’s success. “Nothing happened yet. Last year the season started much harder and ended very well, this year it started very well and we don’t know how it will end.”

He went on to explain the Premier League’s strength precludes them from resting on their laurels. “In another league it could be said that a team that starts with seven wins and a draw would almost mean the title. But in England it doesn’t mean anything, not even that we will finish in the first four places.”

One aspect of the Red Devils’ schedule that should give fans pause is that they’re yet to face any team in the top-half of the table. That will all change when they take on Liverpool after the International break.
