Why Napoli star would opt for Liverpool move over Chelsea
Represented by Jorge Mendes, Ghoulam’s contract will expire in 2018 and a lack of an agreement over his extension has caused corcern for Napoli. The player and agent are seeking a release clause of only €18m however, the club is seeking to protect themselves and insist on a release clause of €30m.
The Algerian has been linked to both Bayern Munich (who are in need of a decent left-back), and PSG Premier League clubs have also been alerted to his availability. Antonio Conte’s Chelsea and Klopp’s Liverpool are the two sides who have shown the most concrete interest. Ghoulam would be direct competition for Marcos Alonso. However a move to Anfield would seem to be the most attractive given Ghoulam would slot easily into the left back position, currently held by both Milner and Alberto Moreno who has struggled to convince in his time at Liverpool.
Both clubs are keen to invest a large sum into Ghoulam, and are hoping a renewal is not agreed upon.
