Why Real Madrid have put Cristiano Ronaldo contract talks on hold

The future of Cristiano Ronaldo at Real Madrid has been surprisingly put into doubt as chiefs of the Merengues are reportedly not willing to meet the Portuguese star’s requests for a contract extension.

The Mirror , reports that some chiefs of the LaLiga giants are not open to offer the three times Ballon d’Or winner a new five-year contract as the former Manchester United striker turns 32 in February and would be too old to extend his stay at the club for five more years.

Ronaldo’s current deal at the Santiago Bernabeu expires in June 2018 and Ronaldo has requested the club a new contract expiring in 2021, when he’s going to be 36.

Florentino Perez had previously ensured Ronaldo that an agreement between the two parties would have not been a big deal, but today’s revelation of the British tabloid suggest that the history between CR7 and Real Madrid could have a surprise ending with Premier League clubs that are all keeping a close eye on the development of the situation at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Ronaldo moved from Manchester United to Real Madrid in a € 94 million bid in 2009 and has abundantly justified his price-tag becoming the best scorer in the history of the club with 368 goals in 356 games.
