Barca ready to offer Messi €400m release clause

Barcelona are planning to offer Lionel Messi a blockbuster deal, including a stunning €400 million release clause.

Both the Blaugrana and the Argentine star recently dropped hints that the extension was going to be signed, with Messi’s deal expiring in 2018, but that it was being delayed by Barcelona’s wish to put it into their 2018/2019 books.

Mundo Deportivo confirm that the superstar will earn 40 million a year, and that he will be offered a three-year deal, with an option for a fourth.

The false nine has been chased by a number of clubs, with PSG apparently ready to spend 250m on him, ie the current release clause.

The Catalans need a major reboot in defence and midfield, where Andres Iniesta is ageing and on an expiring deal, while the back line is missing a left-back and more dynamic alternatives to Javier Mascherano.

Despite this, they are ready to do anything to sign their star player.
