Barca fly to Lisbon for €55m Man United target

Barcelona are close to nabbing Nelson Semedo from Benfica, and are sending emissaries to Lisbon to seal the deal, according to the latest reports from Spain.

Sporting director Robert Fernandez is off to the Portuguese capital, according to Marca, accompanied by Javier Bordas.

The former Manchester United target was very close to the Old Trafford club over the winter transfer period, but seems to have dropped off the radar since the Red Devils spent €35 million on team-mate Victor Lindelof.

Barcelona are trying to break things open, despite the fact that they want to pay 30 million for the Portuguese star, while Benfica told them last month that they wanted to 55m.

The 23-year-old made six assists last season.

Barcelona themselves like Semedo, because they have been stonewalled over Hector Bellerin, whom Arsene Wenger doesn’t want to let go, or indeed negotiate over.

Having given up on their former academy man, they are stepping up the chase for a right-back, a position of dire need despite the presence of Sergi Roberto.
