Bayern keen to replace Lewandowski with this Serie A star

With Robert Lewandowski rumored to favor a move to Real Madrid during the summer, Bayern Munich are preparing for life after the Polish star. According to German media reports, those preparations include Inter Milan captain Mauro Icardi.

The Argentinian has all but dominated Serie A since debuting with Sampdoria’s senior side in 2012. Now, as the Nerazzurri’s target man, Icardi has cemented his place as one of Europe’s premiere strikers. Only eight goals shy of the century mark in Serie A, he is at the prime of his value, and Inter may benefit from a sale to Bavaria.

Icardi’s contract, negotiated by his wife Wanda Nara (former wife of his ex-teammate Maxi Lopez), calls for a €110 million foreign release clause. As such, Jupp Heynckes’ club has begun to do their due diligence on the goalscorer.

In 12 league matches this season, Icardi has already deposited 11 goals. Though he is anything but a playmaker, his lone assist on the year proved crucial in last week’s 1-1 home draw to Torino.
