Breaking: Man City close to capturing €56m French star

Pep Guardiola looks like he’s one step closer to revamping his defence, if the latest reports are accurate.

According to the Independent, Manchester City look to be nearing an agreement on a fee with Monaco over left-back Benjamin Mendy.

The Sky Blues are engaging on a summer spree of epic proportions, already overtaking the £200 million mark by nabbing fellow Monaco man Bernardo Silva, goalkeeper Ederson and Kule Walker, who was signed for £50m (€56m) on Friday.

It looks like Mendy will cost a similar amount, after Monaco had rejected previous bids which were clearly inferior.

Reports last week indicated that Guardiola - who had scouted Mendy, Silva and other Monaco players personally on previous occasions - had already seen offers of €40-45 shot down.

Mendy is expected to become a City player by the end of the week, the two sides expected to agree on his fee, plus some minor details.

The 23-year-old had previously hinted at a move, as can be seen below...
