Breaking: Man City retire from race to sign AC Milan star as they agree deal for €40m goalkeeper

Manchester City and Barcelona have reached an agreement for the transfer of 23-year-old goalkeeper Ederson, the Portuguese club have confirmed through their official website and social media accounts.

“Benfica announce to have reached an agreement with Manchester City over the transfer of Ederson who is set to complete a permanent € 40 million move”, Benfica’s official announcement reads.

Ederson is set to become the second most expensive goalkeeper in the history of football after Gigi Buffon who joined Juventus from Parma for € 53 million in summer 2001. Ederson’s price-tag is even higher than Manuel Neuer’s who swapped Shalke 04 with Bayern Munich for € 27 million in 2011.

The Brazilian goalkeeper was spotted at the Manchester City’s medical centre a few days ago ahead of his medical with the Premier League giants.

The signing of the 23-year-old means Manchester City are likely to retire from the race to sign AC Milan’s Gigio Donnarumma who was also being monitored by Pep Guardiola.
