Conte reveals which club he could have joined instead of Chelsea

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has admitted that he was approached by Roma before the club sealed Luciano Spalletti’s return to the Stadio Olimpico last summer after Rudi Garcia left his position from the helm of affairs.

Ahead of the Blues’ Champions League clash against Serie A giants Roma, Conte talked up a host of issues and his links with Roma was one of them. He told reporters in the pre-match press conference: “It’s (Roma) a great club, so I’m extremely proud of seeing my name close to them, it’s a big city and a big club. After Garcia, Roma made two great choices such as Spalletti and Di Francesco.”

Chelsea currently top Group C with six points, after having picked up wins over Qarabag and Atletico Madrid in the first two group stage games. A win against Eusebio di Francesco’s men will bring them all the more close to progressing into the knockout stages of the competition. The Giallorossi are fifth in the Serie A table, nine points behind league leaders Napoli.
