Croatia midfielder questioned in tax fraud case involving former team

Things are not looking very bright for Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric, who is currently included in an investigation involving perjury during a tax fraud trial that involved Zdravko Mamic. Mamic was Modric’s manager at Dinamo Zagreb, and is considered a powerful man in the football scene in Croatia.

The tax corruption trial was against Zdravko Mamic and his brother Zoran, who are accused of fraud that cost the club over 15 million EUR and the state over 1.5 million EUR. Should Modric be found guilty of perjury in the case, he could face between six months and five years in prison. Questions were centered around his transfer from Dinamo Zagreb to Tottenham in 2008.
