Di Matteo: Juventus should sign Liverpool target

A former Schalke Coach recommends that Juventus sign Benedikt Howedes.

The Bianconeri have conceded in all three official games they’ve played so far, having penalties called against them as their back line looks creakier than ever.

Ex-Italian international Roberto Di Matteo claims that “the lad is a guarantee”.

They have been consequently linked to the German international, who is also liked by Liverpool, too.

New S04 Coach Domenico Tedesco has already benched Howedes because he doesn’t quite fit his system, a possible encouragement to leave.

Liverpool are, however, ready to spend 20 million on the defender, who is very much liked by Jurgen Klopp.

“Howedes is an extraordinary lad and a centre-back worthy of a top team,” former Schalke tactician Di Matteo told Tuttojuve.com (via Football Italia).

“In emergencies he has also played as a left-back, but prefers the centre. He has a strong physique and I consider his characteristics very well suited to Italian football.

“He’s not Usain Bolt, but I wouldn’t call him slow either. He’s good at reading situations and anticipating his opponent. He had plenty of chances to leave Schalke before, but kept the faith with his hometown club.

“The lad is a guarantee, you can trust him and he’s been the Schalke captain for years. He won the World Cup with Germany and was fantastic with me.”
