Exclusive: all the midfielders on AC Milan’s shortlist to replace Montolivo

Riccardo Montolivo picked up a serious knee injury yesterday night during a World Cup qualifier tie between Italy and Spain.

Calciomercato.com’s Alessandro Di Gioia and Daniele Longo point out those midfielders who could replace the Italian midfielder who’s set to remain out of action for almost six months.

The first option is a home-made one and is called Manuel Locatelli. A product of the club’s academy he scored his first goal in Serie A last week-end showing that he has enough personality to cover the role of playmaker despite being just 19-year-old.

Until January, he will be the player replacing Montolivo as the competition of Mario Pasalic doesn’t seem to be a problem for the U-21 Italy midifielder.

Jose Sosa and Juraj Kucka can also play in front of defence, but the first one is too slow, whilst the second one doesn’t have enough quality to play on that part of the pitch.

Then, there is the transfer market. Calciomercato.com has exclusively taught that AS Monaco starlet Tiemoue Bakayoko is one of AC Milan’s priorities. Scouts of the club have been watching the dynamic midfielder for several games this season. Trouble is, his price-tag id already around € 30 million and AS Monaco are involved in the race for the French title, which would made them reluctant to sell the 22-year-old midfielder.

Another Ligue1 midfielder is on AC Milan’s shortlist: Vincent Koziello, a 21-year-old midfielder playing for Nice, but, still, his role is not the properly the one of playmaker.

Lazio stars Danilo Cataldi and Lucas Biglia could receive offers from the San Siro outfit. Massimiliano Mirabelli will also knock the door of Fiorentina asking for long-time target Milan Badelj. La Viola consider the Croat unsellable, but the player wants to leave the club and hi contract expires in June 2017.
