Exclusive: Conte wanted Chiellini at Chelsea back in 2016

Calciomercato exclusively understand that former Juventus boss Antonio Conte tried to sign Giorgio Chiellini in 2016 during his stint at Chelsea.

Chiellini came up with a towering performance against Inter for the bianconeri yesterday, as he played a vital role in handing the Old Lady a big 1-0 win. The 34-year-old has made ten Serie A appearances so far this season.

Calciomercato's Fabrizio Romano exclusively understands that Conte tried signing Chiellini back in 2016 when he had joined Chelsea as the club's boss as he knew how good the Italian centre-back was.

Chiellini was the first player Conte had on his list of transfers and he had even told the Blues owner Roman Abramovich to sign the defender at all costs, even if it costed a lot.

Andrea Agnelli though, armored Chiellini and Juve somehow managed to keep the defender that summer. He never wanted to leave the bianconeri and his mind is still very much focused on playing for Juve.

He now has a lifetime contract with Juve and Conte was the only man who tried to break the romance between Juventus and Giorgio Chiellini.
