Exclusive: Donnarumma’s AC Milan contract talks stall over release clause

Gigio Donnarumma is reported to have reached an agreement with AC Milan over his contract extension with the club. The rossoneri have offered Donnarumma a € 6 million-a-year deal promising to sign his 27-year-old brother as well.

Donnarumma’s new contract will also include a € 50 million release clause if AC Milan fail to qualify for the Champions League and a € 100 million one if they make it into Serie A’s top four.

The player’s agent Mino Raiola, however, has yet to give his green light. AC Milan’s CEO Marco Fassone has confirmed that the agent has yet to approve the offer of the club and calciomercato.com exclusively reported that the diavoli have sounded out Napoli over Pepe Reina, which proves they are not 100% sure Donnarumma will sign a contract extension.

Sources have told calciomercato.com the real problem behind Donnarumma’s contract extension is his release clause.

AC Milan want the release clauses to be available just for foreign clubs as they fear Serie A giants like Inter and Juventus may decide to sign the player in the future.

Raiola, however, would prefer the release clause to be available for every team in the world, including Juventus, Inter and any other Serie A club. Donnarumma’s contract extension is far from being a done deal yet.
