Exclusive: father explains Zaza West Ham flop

Simone Zaza is in the form of his life at Valencia. He has six goals in seven appearances and Valencia sit third in the table also thanks to their striker’s stunning form.

His father Antonio has released an exclusive interview with our Daniele Longo.

Your son has had a great start to the season...
“We are happy for this magic moment, we are happy for him and for the squad. Simone feels like he’s at home now.”

But at the beginning of the season he had problems with Marcelino
“The situation was exaggerated by somebody. He did not have any argument with his manager. Simply sometimes there could be arguments inside the locker room.”

His goals were not enough to get an Italy call-up
“We respect the choices of Ventura. Of course Simone was not happy for the decision because things are going well in Valencia at the moment, every player dreams of the national team.”

Do you think the strikers chosen by Ventura are better than Simone?
“You said that and I don’t want to judge other players. What really matters is that Simone is finally happy and wants to keep scoring lot of goals.”

Do you think the decision also depends on the penalty he missed against Germany in 2006?
“Only who takes the penalties miss them. When he took the responsibility he knew he could fail. I hope no, anyway. He did many positive games with Italy.”

So Simone does not think about a possible return to Italy
“He doesn’t miss Serie A at all, he is happy ay Valencia and also in the summer there were no concrete offers.”

Why did he fail at West Ham?
“It was a huge mistake. Simone was still concerned by the penalty he missed with Italy at the time and he fail to settle in well in London. He was not happy with the weather and with the formation of his ex boss. Moving to Spain was the best ever decision for him.”
