EXCLUSIVE: Juventus pondering signing former AC Milan centre-back Acerbi

Juventus have set sights on Sassuolo centre-back Francesco Acerbi. The former AC Milan man is blazing a trail with the Neroverdi this term and is also rumoured to have attracted the interest of AS Roma and Lazio as well.

Juventus’ defensive line is probably the best Serie A can offer, though both Giorgio Chiellini and Andrea Barzagli have suffered injuries this campaign.

Daniele Rugani has been improving a lot. The former Empoli wonderkid will probably start tomorrow’s San Siro game against AC Milan and Allegri has shown plenty of confidence in the young central defender.

However, with Martin Caceres’ contract expiring in June and the Uruguay International set to leave the J Stadium at the end of the season, the Old Lady needs another option to strengthen her defence.

Allegri already coached Acerbi at AC Milan in 2012, but the Italy International failed to live up to expectations during his one-year spell at the San Siro.

Being left-footed, he could be a perfect back-up to Giorgio Chiellini. Acerbi’s price-tag is somewhere around € 7.5 million and with Juventus and Sassuolo on good terms, finding an agreement to seal the player’s transfer should not be a difficult issue for the Bianconeri outfit.

As CM.com’s Nicola Balice reports, Juventus are also working to keep their best defenders. Andrea Barzagli and Patrice Evra’s deals expire at the end of the season but both defenders are edging closer to extend their J Stadium stay for at least one more season.
