Exclusive: Why AC Milan didn’t sack Montella, possible replacements revealed

AC Milan did not sack Vincenzo Montella after yesterday’s 0-0 draw against Genoa. The rossoneri are without a win in the last six games in all competitions and are very far from Champions League placements. Fans are pushing to sack Montella but club’s executives don’t want to part companies with the Italian yet.

Calciomercato.com has understood that Montella wasn’t sacked yesterday because AC Milan are due to face many games in the coming weeks. The rossoneri will travel to Verona on Wednesday to face Chievo before the week-end’s home clash against Juventus.

AC Milan executives did not want to sack Montella in the middle of such a busy period but if the away game to Chievo will end with a defeat the Italian is likely to get sacked.
AC Milan executives have lost their patience with Montella and it is more their busy schedule than their trust in Montella to have saved the job of the Aeroplanino.

Meantime, the rossoneri are considering possible Montella replacements. The likes of Paulo Sousa and Walter Mazzarri are in pole position to take over at AC Milan, Gennaro Gattuso could be a possible interim manager but reports in England claim Conte could be sacked by Chelsea in the coming hours. If the former Juve boss faces Chelsea sack he’d automatically become AC Milan’s first choice.
