Focus: Juventus need to use Dani Alves more if he's to kick inconsistency

There’s little point beating around the bush: Dani Alves has been a disappointment this season at Juvenuts. Expected to come in and help Juventus hit top gear in the Champions League, the Brazilian simply hasn’t played all that well, and looks to have alienated Stephan Lichtsteiner, too.

Instead, he’s struggled to adapt to Serie A, a different tactical proposition to La Liga. It can’t have been easy to move from the tiki-taka system favoured by Barcelona to Juventus’ current formation.

All of this isn’t enough, however, to justify what has happened to the 33-year-old. His tendency to float inside has been a big issue… but so has the lack of playing time. Heck, Alves hasn’t started three straight games, not being used in the starting XI since the Bianconeri crushed Sampdoria at home. With only six starts this season, more was expected of the Brazilian.

The thing is, the only way that the ex-Sevilla man will be able to get in sync with his team-mates… is by playing more. The fact that he played 180 minutes with the Selecao during the interntional break should be evidence that his powers aren’t fading. At least not in Italy, anyway…
