Genoa offers to play River-Boca Superclasico at Stadio Luigi Ferraris

Waiting to know the date of the final of Copa Libertadores that has been postponed, the city of Genoa made its own stadium available and has invited the two clubs to play the 'Superclasico' at the Luigi Ferraris. Both Argentinian clubs, in fact, have deep links with the Ligurian capital.

On December 4 the official decision on the date of the match and the venue will arrive and the city of Genoa, through a letter that a city official Stefano Anzalone sent to the president of Boca Juniors and that of River Plate, has invited the two clubs to return to their origins.

In fact, the municipality of Genoa remembers in the note that 'the ties that unite the two Argentinian football clubs', as both clubs were founded by Genoese immigrants at the beginning of the twentieth century in the Boca district.

Even today, the fans of Boca Juniors emphasize their origins by defending "Xeneizes", from the distortion to the plural of the Ligurian team zeneize or zeneixi which means precisely Genoese.

At River Plate, on the other hand, the white-read colours were adopted in honour of the banner of Genoa and the many Genoese in the club.

"We would be very proud to host important clubs such as Boca and River in our city by welcoming them in what, in some ways, is also their first home," said Anzalone.

"It would also be a further opportunity to give international visibility to Genoa in this difficult moment and to renew the deep sense of friendship that historically unites us with those societies," he added.
