Injured Liverpool target close to return for Roma

Highly-touted youngster Emerson Palmieri is making significant progress in his recovery from an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear suffered at the conclusion of Roma’s campaign last year. The good news bodes well for Liverpool, who have long been interested in the wing-back.

While playing with Roma’s primavera side, Palmieri went 60 minutes in their 2-1 loss to Inter Milan’s youngsters.

Liverpool is in desperate need of defensive help this January, and they feel the left-back will provide an immediate injection of quality, as well as youth, to the backline at Anfield. Jurgen Klopp is enamored to the point that he’s willing to drop €22 on the 23-year-old just returning from serious injury.

As his health improves, Roma will be faced with a difficult decision. Rick Karsdorp is now out with the same ACL injury, and the club has struggled to find a permanent winger. Selling a healthy Palmieri to Liverpool would eliminate a quality option.
