Inter Ausilio: "Icardi, we will not sell & we don't talk about a renewal. Gabbiadini doesn't interest us, negotiations with Candreva"

Inter Sporting Director Piero Ausilio has been speaking to reporters ahead of boarding his flight to the USA to join up with the team.

First question of course, surrounded the latest situation with striker Mauro Icardi, Ausilio stated that; “We will not sell Mauro, he is our captain. A renewal? Now is not the moment, we will discuss this when there is less media exposure”. It’s true we have met with Napoli but we are not going to give them Icardi, there is no deal. Our idea is to reinforce the team by taking top players, I’m not interested what they can offer, Icardi does not have a clause and Inter does not want to sell, simple as that”.

When asked if there were problems between the club and player Ausilio responded; “There are no problems with the player, he’s working well with us and now he is the captain. We have always been attentive to his needs and we have always renewed at the right time and now is not the right time to renew. Today there are other priorities so we will return to this matter in the future”. Next on the list, Napoli striker Manolo Gabbiadini, here Ausilio simply replied; “He does not interest us”.

Then the conversation turned to Antonio Candreva, Ausilio once more; “Candreva interests us but there is a problem reaching an economic agreement with Lazio. We will see what happens; the transfer window still has a while to run”. Finally, on the club’s transfer policy he stated that; “You say it’s possible that two or three player will arrive? We have a big squad already, one composed of 21 players so we will concentrate on bringing in one player only”, he said with a wry smile”.

On current coach Roberto Mancini Ausilio explained that; “I’m going to the USA to understand what the situation is. I often speak with him and I will getter a better idea of the situation between himself and the President tomorrow”. On the subject of bringing in young players he stated that; “We have always made the most from our youth sector and every year it provides us with some outstanding talent. Our new management structure has only been in place a month so you cannot do in a month what other teams have done over several years. We want to make good the project we started under the old regime and make Inter a great team again”.

Next came the subject of Juventus, Ausilio declared that; “Juve has always been strong and they have taken some big players once again. I’m not frightened by the fact that they took Higuain, we know we are still missing something from our team but also that we have some great players too”.

Finally, on financial fair-play restrictions, he explained that; “We are just looking to reinforce the team, to buy players but above all, to not sell any to our direct rivals. We have had FFP restrictions for a while now and we know that we can only enrol 21 players, if we have 25-26 then we have to sell and these players already know this. From here until August 21 we will work towards our transfer targets then we will see”.
