Inter target Calleri offered to AS Roma by intermediaries!

    Jonathan Calleri is on fire!

The Inter target was up to his old tricks yesterday, scoring a wonderful brace (see his goals below) to seal a key win for Sao Paulo against River Plate in Copa Libertadores action.

What made the brace so special, beyond his ties to bitter rivals Boca Juniors, is the fact that the Tricolor was struggling in Group 1, stuck on five points and needing a win to qualify for the knockout round. Calleri's efforts now ensure that Sao Paulo go into the final game of the round robin in second, joint with first-place River Plate, knowing that a win against whipping boys Trujillanos will see them through.

Now, the Corriere dello Sport reports that the striker is being chased by AS Roma, who were offered the striker by intermediaries. Owned by Deportivo Maldonado, the -year-old Argentine striker is valued at approximately 10 million.

Inter Milan worked hard to bring him to the San Siro during the January window, planning to move him to Bologna on loan before an eventual transfer to AC Milan.

The Beneamata's director of sport, Piero Ausilio, was discouraged by the murky nature of the striker's ownership situation, with a third party reported to own a big chunk of his rights. Ausilio feared that this might violate UEFA regulations, and ultimately desisted.

Could the Giallorossi be interested? It is increasingly unlikely that Edin Dzeko will still be a Roma player next season, having only netted times in Serie A games.
