Juventus, Chiellini: ‘The applause of 80k people at San Siro was emotional’

Juventus and Italy captain Giorgio Chiellini made his 100th appearance for the Italian national team on Saturday evening, as the Azzurri were held to a 0-0 draw at San Siro. Despite being on top for the first 70 minutes of the game, Italy failed to score and therefore must settle for 2nd place in their UEFA Nations League group; missing out on the semi-finals.

Speaking to Rai 1 about his feelings, Chiellini said “All the affection I received was really exciting.”

“Portugal? Yesterday was an almost perfect evening and closing it with a victory would have been memorable. However, receiving the applause of 80 thousand people, especially to me as I identify as a Juventus player, surprised me and it was exciting.”

Chiellini also spoke on his thoughts on Italy’s future and youth prospects: “For Italy I try to help integrate the young players, I try to help them and I see them grow, I felt their emotions in the past.”
