Liverpool- Napoli: Mertens mocks Liverpool over 'This is Anfield' banner

Napoli star Dries Mertens has mocked Liverpool by calling the 'This is Anfield' sign at the dressing too small to be noticed and a 'small thing'.

Mertens' Napoli will travel to Anfield later today in what promises to be a spicy encounter. Liverpool will have to win 1-0 and if Napoli score once, they'd have to win by a two goal margin, if they want to go through and qualify for the next round of the competition.

Mertens was recently talking to the Times about the game and he recounted an incident from his trip to Anfield eight years ago when he was at Utrecht and the Dutch side were to play at Anfield in a dead rubber Europa League game.

Mertens said: “My strongest memory is that they have a sign saying ‘This is Anfield’ and everyone was talking about it, so I was thinking it’s very big, you know.

“I came through the tunnel and I asked, ‘Where is the thing?’ and they said you missed it and I hadn’t noticed it.

"So, in the second half, I’m looking at this small thing and asking, ‘Is this so special?’ ”
