Low release clause attracts interest of Chelsea and Barcelona in Serie A ace

Napoli star Dries Mertens has a very low release clause included in his contract and several top European clubs are being linked with a summer move for the Belgian star.

The 30-year-old will be free to leave the San Paolo at the end of the season for € 28 million (€ 33 million if Napoli win the Serie A title) and Manchester United have already made contact with the player’s entourage.

Representatives of the Red Devils met the Belgian last summer but the player eventually decided to pen a contract extension with his club adding a low release clause in his deal.
Manchester United are being yet again linked with the Belgian although Il Corriere del Mezzogiorno claims Barcelona and Chelsea are also interested in signing the versatile striker at the end of the season.

Mertens’ release clause, in fact, can’t be activated in the winter transfer window but only in the summer.
