Man City boss Guardiola defends spending spree

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has defended the club’s summer spending, according to The Independent,  despite the Blues already forking out £200m in transfers.

The club missed out on silverware last season and finished an underwhelming 3rd place in the Premier League, with the Spaniard calling for enforcements in the wing-back and goalkeeper department.

Speaking in L.A ahead of City’s pre-season game with L.A Galaxy, Pep said, "I would like to pay less for the club, for everybody,  but the market is the market," he said. "Manchester City did not invest in full-backs in the last six or seven last years and all four had 31 or 32 years old. We decided we had to make the squad younger and we try to get the best full-backs possible."

So far City have brought in Kyle Walker, Benjamin Mendy and Danilo to bolster their defensive flanks for a cost of around £150m and also recruited ‘keeper Ederson from Benfica for £35, midfielder Douglas Luiz for £10.2m and attacker Bernardo Silva for £42.5m.
