Man United star: Mourinho is hard on me

Anthony Martial claims that Jose Mourinho is “hard with him” and the whole Manchester United squad.

Acquired for 50 million in 2015 - much to the football world’s surprise - the former Monaco striker was a hit in his first season under Louis Van Gaal, but struggled to get playing time under the Special One last year.

“He is hard with all of us and he is hard with me, there is no question,” the 21-year-old told Premier League productions.

“I know that it is for my benefit, but I also know that he really likes me as a person so there is no issue about the discipline being for the wrong reasons.”

The French international - who recently provided a brilliant assist to Alexandre Lacazette in Les Bleus’ 2-2 draw with Germany - was even linked to a move to Inter this summer, but seemed intent on remaining in England and fighting for his place.

“Our objective, of course, is to have all of us in audition [training] and being fit to play every match, and that is what I’m hoping to do,” Martial continued.

“At the beginning, we didn’t know each other too well but over time we have gotten to know each other better.

“He knows my strengths and he knows my weaknesses, such as they are, but the outcome is that we are learning to give everything in the right way.”

Martial’s current season has begun well, by his standards: he’s got four goals in ten Premier League games, as many as he got in all 25 appearances last season.
He’s got six goals and six assists in all competitions, too.
