Man Utd and City stars back Higuain to return to Argentina national team

Argentina duo Sergio Romero and Sergio Agüero have both had their say on Juventus striker Gonzalo Higuaín’s omission from the latest Selección squad. The Albiceleste boss Jorge Sampaoli has snubbed the Juve striker opting for Mauro Icardi and Dario Benedetto instead.

Il Pipita, however, is currently enjoying a great run of form with Juventus, yet national team boss Jorge Sampaoli would still rather call upon Boca Juniors front man Darío Benedetto. Agüero had this to say on the matter: “We miss Gonzalo, but we don’t decide who is called up. Higuaín is a great striker, but the final decision always lies with coach Sampaoli.” Meanwhile, former Sampdoria goalkeeper Romero told Fox Sports: “With all due respect, I wonder why there is no Higuaín, a world class goalscorer. Higuaín has played in the world’s best leagues, and scored more than 20 goals in a season with Real Madrid. The coach takes his decisions, selects the players, makes the calls and we fall in line."
