Manchester United make 30 million bid for Portuguese international

According to reports in from A Bola, Manchester United have made a £30M bid for Benfica right-back Nelson Semedo. The 23-year-old has long been on boss Jose Mourinho’s radar and it had seemed that he had lost out to Barcelona in the race for the Portuguese international.

Benfica however, has always stated that they will not consider offers for anything less than £48M which is understood to have forced the Catalan giants to look elsewhere. Reports today in Mundo Deportivo suggest that the Blaugrana cannot be totally dismissed from the race to sign Semedo; the journal claiming that new coach Ernesto Valverde may come in with an offer for £35M.

It could be that United’s nearest challengers are their cross-town rivals Manchester City who are also believed to be monitoring the situation with the highly-rated defender.

Mourinho has reportedly told United chiefs he wants a new central defender (which he now has with the arrival of Victor Lindelof), a new full-back, a central midfielder and a striker to complete his summer rebuilding at Old Trafford.
