Manchester United talking to Barcelona about Spanish international defender

Reports in Spain suggest that Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has made contact with Barcelona over the possibility of signing full-back Jordi Alba. According to Diario Gol, the 28-year-old has been identified by the Portuguese tactician as the player he wants to fill in on the troublesome left-back position at Old Trafford.

The portal claims that although the Spanish international has been reassured by new coach Ernesto Valverde that he will be part of his plans next term, interest from the Red Devils could make the player decide to head to the Premier League.

With Luke Shaw failing to impress and both Marcus Rojo and Daley Blind more suited to the centre of defence, Mourinho sees Alba as the perfect fit for his jigsaw as he looks to try to wrestle the Premier League title away from his former club Chelsea. Having just completed the £31M signing of Swedish central defender Victor Lindelof, Mourinho is still looking for a quality left-back.

Benfica’s Nelson Semedo has been mentioned in despatches and so as Tottenham Hotspur's Danny Rose. Alba however, could now be the priority target.
