Manchester United tell Real Madrid to forget about signing De Gea

The Daily Star writes this morning that Manchester United have told Spanish giants Real Madrid that their pursuit of goalkeeper David De Gea will ultimately end in failure. The Champions League finalists have made the 26-year-old custodian their primary summer target but the journal suggests that the player himself has not asked to leave Old Trafford despite recent reports claiming he was itching for a return to his home city.

After their well-documented attempt to capture his signature in 2015, De Gea signed a lucrative new deal at United and is currently under contract until 2019 earning a reported £200,000-a-week. Now the Red Devils have gained access to next season’s Champions League, boss Jose Mourinho is looking to add to his star studded squad, not sell his prime assets and De Gea, who is considered one of the world’s best in his position, certainly fits into that category.
