Maurizio Sarri suspended for two Coppa Italia matches following homophobic slur

Italy’s Sporting Judge Gianfranco Tosel has suspended Napoli coach Maurizio Sarri for two Coppa Italia matches for calling his Inter counterpart Roberto Mancini a ‘faggot’ during Napoli’s Coppa Italia tie against Inter on Tuesday evening.

The former Empoli tactician was also fined € 20.000 for having ‘heavily insulted’ Roberto Mancini.

In a few words, Sarri has been found guilty of causing general offences and not for using a homophobic slur at the end of the Coppa Italia game.

Following Napoli elimination from the tournament on Tuesday night, Sarri’s ban will be effective only from next season.

Roberto Mancini was also fined € 5.000 for ‘disrespect’ to the fourth official in the dressing room after the game.
