MILAN MALAISE: Cristian Brocchi wanted to resign!

Chaos rules supreme at AC Milan.  The decision to appoint Cristian Brocchi, hand-picked by the club president Silvio Berlusconi, and sack Sinisa Mihajlovic hasn’t brought a change in fortunes for the Rossoneri. The former youth team coach, at least before the loss to Roma, had always defended his squad, citing their commitment in training and desire to follow his ideas. But after the woeful display against the Giallorossi in which Milan were outplayed and humiliated in their own backyard (and played with a lack of character, to quote the coach) Brocchi’s belief that his men are behind him appears a lot less credible and the Italian seems to be becoming an increasingly isolated figure.

So much so that the 40 year-old even considered handing in his resignation, according to the Corriere dello Sport. Brocchi doesn’t have the support of the locker room and to make matters worse the club’s CEO Adriano Galliani is tracking outgoing Empoli boss Marco Giampaolo, prime candidate for the Rossoneri bench next season.

Nonetheless, and for the time being at least, Brocchi seems to have put the idea of resigning to one side with his focus on Juventus and this Saturday’s TIM Cup final. On the subject of the final, the Milan tactician appears to have made a few team selections for the showdown in Rome. Bacca, Montolivo and Bonaventura are set for starting berths but Balotelli, Alex and Menez won’t start. Juraj Kucka is also at risk of missing out on a starting jersey as the midfielder’s form has dropped since the sacking of Mihajlovic.
