Monaco set to rival Marseille for €17m Juventus, ex-Bayern star

Two French sides are set to compete for Mehdi Benatia: Monaco and Marseille.

Calciomercato.it reveal that the Juventus reserve’s future won’t definitely be in Turin, because Monaco have joined the race to sign him.

The Ligue 1 champions want to reinforce their defence, having had to rely on Andrea Raggi a little too often last season - especially in the late stages of the Champions League.

Since Juventus spent 17 million on the Moroccan last summer to secure his loan-to-buy move to Turin, Benatia has struggled to rack up the minutes, barely going over the thousand mark this season despite being previously considered to be one of Calcio’s best.

Sold to Bayern Munich for 26m in 2014, the 30-year-old failed to make an impact, and has played little more in Turin.

Though this depends on Leonardo Bonucci’s future, Juventus could be persuaded with an offer superior to the 17m Juventus spent on him. Benatia himself could be persuaded with a starting role in one of Europe’s best teams, at least last season.
