Serie A giants Napoli have reportedly blocked the exit of Dries Mertens of now, as the Belgian is currently on the radar of both Manchester United and Barcelona.

Now 30, Mertens has become a vital cog in Maurizio Sarri’s wheel at Napoli since last season, when he scored 28 times in the Serie A and helped the Partenopei finish inside the top four. This season, Mertens has scored ten times already.

Both United and Barcelona have long been linked with a move for Mertens, but Napoli have decided to block all approaches for their prized asset till January as they look to keep hold of their forward.

While Napoli have blocked out approaches, it is said that Mertens currently has a 28 million euros release clause, which they would like to take full advantage of it once it gets activated next summer. This clause won’t be in effect in January.
