Napoli president admits top Liverpool target can leave

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis released a long and interesting interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport to talk about the Serie A title race but also to share a few transfer updates on some top Napoli stars.

No secret Dries Mertens and Faouzi Ghoulam are among the most interesting footballers of the partenopei at the moment although both players have some precarious contract situations right now.

The Belgian has a € 30 million release clause included in his contract whilst Ghoulam’s deal expires at the end of the season and there is still no agreement between the club and the footballer given that the two parties have to agree a release clause to include in the player’s new contract.

Trouble is, Napoli are running out of time and Ghoulam is one of the most interesting full-backs in Europe.

“I would keep Ghoulam here forever”, De Laurentiis told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“However, if he wants a release clause I am going to decide it, not him. If he wants a very low release clause it means that he is fooling me out of me and I don’t want it. If we don’t find an agreement he can leave.”

“As for Mertens he signed a contract extension months ago just like Insigne and Callejon. Reina? I stopped negotiations when his agent demanded a new three year deal.”
