Napoli president slams Conte over Italy exit

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis talked to assembled media in Florence on Saturday evening.  Our reporter Giacomo Brunetti was on the spot to interview the Italian businessman.

De Laurentiis was asked his thoughts on Italy national team and he had no nice words for former azzurri boss Conte.

“It’s not easy to have a fixed group of players to train”, De Laurentiis said.

“The national team is chaotic right now, then when you [Ventura] chose a 4-2-4 system that nobody knows you only have to blame yourself. Conte ran away from this situation when he left the national team [to join Chelsea].”

“Sarri? He is the best manager I’ve recently had, I can’t say he is the best ever as I can’t say Allegri is better than Conte.”

Conte was appointed Italy coach in summer 2014 and left his place in charge of the azzurri two years later after leading his side to the quarter finals of the European championships.
