Official: Vincent Kompany bids farewell to Manchester City

Belgium international Vincent Kompany has bid farewell to his club Manchester City on Sunday. The announcement was made through his Facebook page where he posted a long letter describing why he decided to end his association with the club as a player after 11 years.

Kompany is being rated as the very best in his position to have played the game and showed his leadership skills time and again – most recently in the match against Leicester City where his thunderbolt strike helped City in winning back-to-back league titles.

The 33-year-old, whose contract was coming to an end with the Premier League giants, explained his decision by saying: "I think it's time to go". Kompany will leave the club after winning four Premier League, one FA Cup and four Carabao Cup titles.

This will be a fitting departure for a strong centre-back who will leave the club after guiding them to become the first team in the English football history to win a domestic treble among men. Kompany has finished his career after representing City in 338 games in all competitions, where he has scored 20 goals.
