President of Tokyo Verdy claims Totti wanted to move to the Far-East

The future of Roma and Italy legend Francesco Totti looks likely to be as an executive at the club from the capital where he spent his entire career. Talks are under way to assume a role for the player who finally hung up his boots at the end of last season.

Speaking to Nikkan Sports (via Calciomercato.com) however, the president of J2-League side Tokyo Verdy claimed that the 40-year-old’s future could have been very different. Hideaki Hanyu explained that; “Totti was available to us but we could not get the blessing from his family”.

It’s understood that the player’s wife Ilary was behind Totti’s refusal to head out to the Far-East after much discussion over the summer about his next move. His old friend Alessandro Nesta has also stated that he would be more than welcome to join him at NASL side Miami FC but after speaking to Roma patron James Pallotta this weekend, it’s pretty certain we will see the great man wearing a club suit when the new season kicks-off in late August.
