Real Madrid star: Why I fell out with Mourinho

Karim Benzema didn’t get on with former Coach Jose Mourinho, the French international has revealed.

The Real Madrid legend has scored 182 goals in all competitions from the Merengues, but he doesn’t seem to have been the only player peeved with the current Manchester United Coach.

A two-time Champions League winner with Porto and Inter, Mourinho moved to Real Madrid in 2010 to try to bring La Decime to the Santiago Bernabeu. He never made it past the semi-finals of the elite competition and, despite winning La Liga in his time at Madrid, it looks like his players ended up turning against him.

One of them could well have been Benzema, if his latest comments suggest anything. The former Lyon man was peeved when Mourinho compared using him to  ‘hunting with a cat rather than a dog’ in a 2011 press conference.

“It was the start of a strain on the relationship, not everything after had good intentions,” Benzema told Canal+.

“I thought those comments made him laugh and even though there was respect, I started to become irritated.

“I told him that I respected him but that respect between a Coach and a player should be neutral and after that there were no more comments.”
