“Gomez? I knew he was a talented footballer when I coched him at Catania. I follow him and I’ve always done it, also when I was at Fiorentina”, here’s how Vincenzo Montella commented reports linking AC Milan with a move for Argentina and Atalanta star Papu Gomez.

The talented striker is a long time admirer of Montella and this past summer the rossoneri tried to sign him.

According to our sources there is one reason why the diavoli failed to wrap up a deal with Atalanta and their star.

The arrival of Bonucci made Montella consider a possible system swap and Gomez, a pure attacking winger, would have struggled to settle in well in Montella’ss 3-5-2.
Gomez has also been playing as support striker at Atalanta but Montella prefers two classic centre forward to play up front and that’s why Gomez’s AC Milan move eventually collapsed.

Gomez did then sign a contract extension with La Dea last summer.
